You need to use the CustomPoiNames.txt file that is in the bin folder.

I didn't have the map file, so I'm kinda winging it atm. Do I just go to C:/Program Files/Sony/Vanguard/bin (using the default installation location) and just create a notepad file called CustomPoiNames.txt within the /bin folder? That's what I did, at any rate, and attempting to copy in some locations as per the examples listed above.

Am I doing things correctly so far? It's not working, but I'll mess around with it a bit longer.

As a side note, I use DroxUI, which I believe does not come with standard custom locations/descriptions...I believe Core 2 does, so I may try that if it's the easiest way to get this working, tho I'm hoping its just a simple mistype that's causing the locations not to show up... Thanks for all the help so far, been a ton of very great info!

CustomPoINames.txt, the spelling is important.
And I use Drox and POIs are displayed correctly.

for firegrass and cotton we were killing some mobs I want to say out past RK but I will dble check with my gu mates.

Cotton was common off them firegrass was rare but more common then just the fields.

firegrass can spawn is SW near the aggro mobs on the way to outpost two fields across from each other (never seen both spots up at once)

then there is road to NT that has small patch of firegrass/silkbloom

This same area has sandstone/iron and pyrite/limestone.

Up the hill in Southwatch I saw granite/mithril and pyrite limestone.

Hey guys, I see someone found the PoI file on my website...

Ok if you want to download the file and use it ingame that's great, but please don't link directly to the PoI file like that, I'm not surprised some people don't know what to do when that link bypasses the instructions!

This is the link to my VG map pages:

What I've created is a web page that displays PoIs over the ingame maps, with a few filters and a simple search. If you want to quickly look up an area for a resource then the website might be easiest option.

If you want to load the markers onto the ingame map to see when you're playing, you can download the latest version of the PoI file from that page. If you want to cut out all the NPC, mob and other markers and just include the resources then you can. The PoIs are grouped by type in the file so just delete what you don't want.

I should add, it's not possible to update the map markers "on the fly" - seems the client only loads them when you start up the game. I don't think it's possible to reload the PoI file whilst playing, but if anyone knows differently do tell me. It's also not possible (yet?) to filter or select the markers on your ingame map, but using a higher zoom level on your mini-map will spread them out a bit more.

I'm regularly adding more locations as I play, although obviously the map only covers areas I've been to! If anyone would like to contribute more PoIs for resource nodes that would be great. I've got the process semi-automated now so the locations are saved into a log file as I play. So please contact me if you would like to help by recording PoIs for nodes whilst out harvesting.

Exclamation File Location Changed

The location of my CustomPoINames.txt file linked to further up this page has now moved (but not very far!) This was part of creating a system for logging PoIs, plus I'm now offering a separate file with just the Resource PoIs for harvesters.

I am unsure of the coordinates, however, the best place to mine Tin from what I have seen is very close to Three Rivers. If you start at the spawn point, just look around a bit and you'll find a great Tin path that loops around a Bug Bear camp. It's great EXP at lower levels, and quick harvesting.

Curse Gaming no longer seems to have a Vanguard portal.

More like 2 or 3 months, but yes, it's gone.

For locating harvesting nodes, the best I've seen is www.soresha.net. (As posted above, by Soresha, of course.) It's still active, well designed, and easy to use.
